Not sure why they didn’t pick it up, but it wasn’t worth thinking about too much. Not until recently did I think about dropping a package into those mail bins when I had an Amazon return with pre-paid postage that wasn’t being picked up by my mail carrier (Amazon told me to put into my mailbox). Can I drop off my package in USPS mail box? I also never thought that I could use them for anything outside of what can fit into an regular-sized envelopes. I’ve used these boxes periodically for decades and never had a problem. WTF.For the remaining 99.99999999999% of us, those blue boxes work quite well despite our complaints about the United States Postal Service. When I lived in Crescent City, CA, they actually took all the mail to Eureka (80+ miles) and then the stuff for Crescent City came back again. For example, all mail in San Diego gets routed through the central sorting building, at least for the smaller post offices. That way, the mail will go straight from your hand to the mailman for delivery. Take it to the landlord's local post office. I think each DD trip cost like $400, though. It's pretty cool that a server could be in Washington DC in the morning, in Atlanta by late morning, on our bench just before lunchtime, fixed and out the door by 3pm, and make it back to DC just after EOB the same day. When one of the servers took a dump either someone was on a plane ASAP or it'd be Delta Dashed to us. I used to work for a company that built\supported servers that lived in TV station newsrooms. I had a need last year to mail a bunch of letters to the UK - most of the ones I dropped off at the airport arrived in London in 2 days the ones I dropped off at my local PO took 7-10 days. It takes (on average) about 2 days for a deposit to arrive at my CU in MA, versus 3-5 days if I just put it in my local dropbox or take it to my local PO. If I have something that needs to get somewhere non-local ASAP (but not enough to FedEx it), I'll just drop it by the airport post office. I live about 12 minutes away from Charlotte-Douglas airport.
